It seems to be a day for shocks – I’ve just had another minor one. I’ve just had my lunch (salad) and really fancied something sweet afterwards – I normally have a yoghurt or some fruit but we have got none left at home. I am planning to nip into Aldi on the way home to get some more. Anyway I decided to nip down to our canteen to see if they had got any yoghurts and luckily they had. Unfortunately there was no price on the shelf. I thought it couldn’t be that much for a small carton of yoghurt, even if it was organic. So I took it to the till to pay for it – 80p. :eek: How much?! (the ones I buy from Aldi are 19p and they are bigger pots) I was very tempted to refuse to buy it but I really fancied something sweet and I know if I hadn’t had it I would have weakened and had some chocolate instead. So I bought it but I have vowed to never, ever buy yoghurts from there again.PigginSkint's debt free diary

Hi All
Well our camping trip is booked. Yippee! :j I decided that I only had 2 main stipulations (1) that it should be a Club Site (Camping & Caravanning Club) (2) that it should be near a beach. I should also add that it needed to be Club Site with at least basic sanitation (some of them don’t – you have to take your own). Anyway as we are going August bank holiday weekend I knew it would be a case of wherever has got space for the time we want to go (Friday to Tuesday). OH wanted to go to Wales but only one of the Club Sites had availability and that was 40 miles from the Coast. We looked at some South East but they were full as well. OH suggested South West but turned his nose up at the one I suggested which had availability. So I said, what about East? We looked at a few – still no luck. Then we tried Mablethorpe – blue flag beach, not too far from us, with availability for when we wanted to stay. Also I have been to Skegness once and I know that it is quite a nice drive and not too long. OH was swayed so we booked it! That was last night and this morning I have booked the car hire. The cost for the site will be £61 in total (I have paid £25 deposit). The expensive bit will be the car hire which should come in at about £200, including petrol and the extra insurance - I always take that out because an extra £50 quid to be completely covered and no £500 excess to pay in the event of anything happening (I have had a few bumps in my time!:whistle:) seems like a bargain to me, it also means peace of mind and if I am more relaxed then I am less likely to make a mistake! (This is called ‘Know Thyself’!;) ) On top of that will just be the food which of course we would have bought anyway. We are getting really excited now!
Onto more mundane stuff – including today I have only got 4 days left at work. Woohoo! Mind you I can see that it is going to be quite a stressful week – trying to get everything done before I go.
I have forgotten to bring my Avon money with me again so I shall have to pay it in tomorrow instead. I have got to go to physio in the morning so I shall be in town anyway - I will do it then.
Of course one other exciting thing is that it is now only a week at most till my boy comes back (he is either going to be dropped off Monday evening or early on Tuesday morning). It has been very quiet at home without him.
Back to camping a moment (I do love it!) OH has persuaded me that we ought to take the big tent rather than the 2 small ones – I suppose since we will have a reasonable sized car we can. However, I know it has a broken pole which will need replacing. So the plan is that this weekend (please weather be kind to us!) we will get the tent out to give it an air and work out which pole needs replacing so then we can buy a new one (shouldn’t cost too much). In case you are wondering why I don’t know which pole it is that’s broken, my brother was the last one to use that tent and he told me that there was a broken pole.
You know what, even though we will be spending money on this camping trip, the fact that I am so excited about it means it must be a good thing – it will do us the world of good. And I will get to drive again (I do miss it!) which not only will be pleasurable for me but is also a good thing – it means I won’t forget how to do it!! (It will be a looooonnnnnggg time before we can afford to have a car).
Have a good day everyone!PigginSkint's debt free diary

I know exactly what you mean. I deliberately didn't buy fruit from there because I know how expensive it is.
I am now armed with yoghurts and fruit from Aldi. I am also having a big delivery of fruit and veg (and some free eggs - bargain!) this week so I should be fine for a whilePigginSkint's debt free diary

Well Done. I normally bring food from home, but I was having a hungry day yesterday.

Thanks!
I almost always bring food from home. The only times I don't are when (1) we've run out of bread (mind you I don't have sandwiches often) (2) I didn't have time or couldn't be bothered to make anything (3) when lunch is being provided anyway (e.g. when I attend exams that go on all day).
I often have hungry daysbut most of the time I deliberately don't have any money in my purse (apart from an emergency 20p piece in case I need the loo at New St) so I don't get tempted!

You see I've never been brave enough to try that. Must though. May be this is the week. I might make mine a pound though, just for my sanity's sake. It would stop the trips to sainsbury's at lunchtime though.
Thanks for that.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
It's surprisingly effective! I still have my debit card in my purse just in case (I often nip into Aldi on the way home if there is anything we need) but having no actual cash prevents the temptation from the vending machines and the canteen, or, if I go down onto campus, the Spar or the stationery shop!
