Law Degree Anyone?

amyparr wrote:People worry about getting a training contract after their degree, but it depends what type of law your DD wants to practice. I imagine the type of firm who gave her the original advice weren't a London City firm doing corporate/commercial work. If this is the case, high street law is less competitive and finding a training contract may well be a bit easier.
Many, if not most, high street firms do legal aid and the rates are so low that firms will now not take on the hassle and expense of trainees. There are many applicants for every training contract that comes up.
As someone has mentioned, when we advertise admin jobs we get deluged with CVs from post graduates looking for work who have been unable to get training contracts.0 -
I think the placements is a very good idea. I also reccommend that if she is seriously interested in law that she take it as an A-Level. The first year of a law degree is almost exactly the same as a law A-Level. It would give her a good insight into the subject, and she can see if it's something she would like to do at university.0

I was specifically told by many universities - do not take A-Level Law. It gets you into bad habits and you have to be re-teached a lot of it in more depth, making it ultimately harder.0

From what I gather they only tell you that because you would be just doing some of the same stuff at university. I did A-level Law and my room mate does it at University, and the some of the content is exactly the same, how can it not be, it's the law. Also the essay questions are if phrased in the same way; so and so did this, then this happened, advise so and so on the law.0
