Dial Direct and Sabre insurer - dirty underhanded thiefs

I've just read some of the other posts about Dial Directs poor customer service over the telephone - so I'm simply going to write them a letter.

I paid an annual sum for my insurance with them back in January. done and dusted?
In March I got a letter saying that Sabre had carried out a credit check on me and discovered that the date of purchase of the vehicle I had supplied differed from the date of purchase that they had on record. The letter said I could either supply evidence of the date by emailing them a copy of my registration document by a certain date and they would update the policy, or if I didn't respond they would update the policy.
The last paragraph simply said that they understood I may be disappointed with this news and if I wanted I could telephone them.

I didn't think anything of it - all the letter was telling me was "oh we're going to update your policy" anyways. So I didn't bother to follow it up.

Yesterday I discovered DialDirect have taken out two payments from me - they total £73.53

There was no correspondence from DialDirect beforehand so this came as a shock. I've read everything on my online account and there was no warning of me having to pay fees. All I've found is a letter dated 22nd March saying "thank you for updating your policy".

My argument is that the letter was really vague. Details of fees due have not been communicated and have not been explained. DialDirect have gone ahead and taken out payments without even notifying me beforehand (what if I'd been forced to go overdrawn because of them?)
And the most important point of all I feel is that the date I supplied was the purchase date of my vehicle. The "purchase date" is what was asked for at time of application - and it's also stated on the policy document. What they were really asking for was the date I ACQUIRED the vehicle - which is the date they've taken from the registration document, and this IS different from the date I purchased the car.

So, I'm sending them a letter of complaint with all this in - and if I remember I will update this post with the outcome.

In any case, the date I acquired/purchased the vehicle - how come that's so important that it warrants £70+ fee? Ridiculous. This just slaps of yet another company wanting to dupe it's unsuspecting customers and hope to get away with making free money.

!!!!!!!s are not getting away with it.

I bought the car back in 2001 but I do have all my documentation still. Yes, I have the receipt. I bought it from a private seller. all I have is a bit of paper with I think the date, price and probably our names - do you think that will do as proof? I've got plenty of other documents if not!

The registration document will be all the proof they need.

I fail to see what the date of purchase has to do with it though?
