Secret Plans To Raise Rail Fares For Poorest By 8 Per Cent

Wondering whether we should buy our rail season tickets further in advance? I'm seriously wondering if it's even going to pay me to go out to work soon if these transport and child care, food, fuel, petrol costs go up another penny! I would actually probably save loads if I stayed at home and nurtured my kids education myself!
Apparently coalition is going to raise our rail tickets by up to eight per cent above inflation for the next two years (and thats above infaltion) which will just about cripple the miniscule budgets of tired families working to meet the cost of living and who are now at crisis point.Train companies can apparently go on infinitum pushing up rail prices maybe as much as six per cent above inflation, in every year of the new franchises (which are 15 yrs!) in addition to using powers to put in a hefty super peak ticket, hitting crippling those of us who have to commute by train to work. Theyre getting freedoms to slash our daily services as well by up to 10 per cent and put staff out of work by taking away ticket offices.
And they say people should increase their hours - there are now probably no jobs that low waged families can actually afford to even to!

Well it's unaffordable now. A day return ticket one station north (just over 15 miles and 13 minutes) is £6.20 and one station south (just under 15 miles and 11 minutes) is £5.70.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.0 -

Poorest as in people who can't afford cars!
Sorry, nice try also - no jobs within bikeable distance - nearest city 20 miles away by motorway - are you out of touch or what? Never mind, voters have finally caught on - as the polls show!0 -

A price rise in anything is going to affect the poorest more - it's basic maths !!!!!!!
What do you suggest? A sliding scale of increases? Bring 3 months of bank statements to prove you are poor and pay the reduced rate rise. No bank statements and you pay the top rate.
Should we complain about price decreases benefiting the poor more as well?0 -
