    Hi

You can never guarantee that the car wont break down (obviously :) ) but what I always check before I set off on the 600 mile round trip to see my sister in Plymouth is:

Tyre pressures - if you are going camping you will be pretty loaded down and will need to use the correct pressure for a loaded vehicle)
    Oil
    Water/coolant for the engine
Water level in your windscreen washers
    Brake fluid level

This is about all you can really check the levels of and you should check these regularly anyway. Each should be quite easy to find and are usually well marked on the engine (i.e. on newer cars often highlighted in yellow).

Other than that if you are still worried, join the RAC (nb/ if you have tesco clubcard points you can join for a quarter of the cost using clubcard deals)!!!

Have a good time - hope the weather is good :)

Additionally for safety's sake before a long journey you should also always check that all the lights (including brake lights, so extra person required) are operational, and that the windscreen is clean (particularly on the inside where a film of dirt builds up over time which can seriously reduce forward visibility when the sun catches it.)
