Edison Hotel is near times square. Mixed reviews on Trip Adviser ie small bathrooms but have a look.
We haven't stayed there yet, due to stay in May for a couple of days. The Cabbage

I reiterate this. I've stayed there both times i went to New York. Definitely recommended. Very helpful staff, lovely clean rooms etc and it's right in between Times Sq and Central Park.0 -
We stayed @ the Wellington too, ideal for Times Square + Central Park, close to subway + has reasonable sized rooms. Staff are very helpful too. Some people on Tripadvisor have mentioned that the hotel is dated, to be honest we found this to be part of the charm. It is not at all "tatty + run down" as some TA reviewers have stated. The prices are about as close to reasonable as you will get in New York..0

I'd have a good look at the NY link here....

I've stayed at the Cosmopolitan which is further south than Times Square, but price was reasonable. Also you could try Priceline for cheap deals.Bern :j0
