When you say small stuff do you mean close up macro shots? or do you just mean for example a cup of tea for sale on ebay typed stuff?
If you don't want a big bulky one, then a compact camera is the way you want to go.
If you are not fussed with brand new, fresh off the innovation table, then I'd suggest having a look at refurbs from places like Argos on ebay. Quite often you can get decent cameras there at a decent reduction, from just walking in and saying I want this in store.
Brands, well that tends to be personal. I've had hitatchi's the last couple of compacts (misplaced one
so had to replace it) and I know panasonic and Fuji have been quite nice too.
But always google the reviews on them before you buy it. It's not the MB's that should impress, it's the little sensor inside that will dictate a lot on the picture, and obviously this isn't exactly displayed on the box.
If you want macro, then you'd prolly be looking at a lot more for a usable decent compact camera to provide top quality macro.0 -
Small stuff like seeds for example.. I have a camera on my mobile but it is fixed focus so not good for that. Just been to Curries site and they have about 300 to choose forom so I can spend a year wading through them all!! Have found one which looks interesting, camcorder/camera combines, nice and compact. Can't post link yet. ht tp

Sony have lenses which retract behind a shutter to avoid damage, and is worthwhile IMO, though you may find it on other cameras.0 -
Canon Ixus 115 HS - available nowadays for £80-£90.0

A decent 2nd-hand bridge camera such as a Fuji Finepix S5800. These are great for macro. Used one myself until it got broken.
One tip. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a mounting ring on the end of the lens. That way you can mount magnifier lenses for ultra-macro shots.Never Knowingly Understood.
