Car dealer won't give my deposit back

If you are not prepared to see a sale through then be prepared to lose a deposit.
If you are happy to give a £200 deposit then don't complain when you lose it.
I gave a £2k deposit on a car 7 years ago prior to ordering as they were the terms set by Nissan UK. If I had pulled out, I would have expected to lose £2k. In that case, it was a high deposit due to the car that it was.
Apart from that, I have never handed over more than a £100 deposit and I wouldn't do that if I hadn't seen the car first. The last car was a deposit over the phone for £100 and that was only after I had viewed the car costing £22k, then completed the deal the next day by phone.
Anyone giving £200 to take a car off the market before they have even seen it needs their head testing.0 -
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone with a sound mind would give a £200 debit card deposit over the phone for a car they haven't even seen. I find it even more difficult to understand why any sane person would buy a car from a garage 180 miles away."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Hi everyone.Thankyou for all your replies.
I will be in the area where the car is in a few weeks so will pay them a visit0 -
What would be the point in taking deposits if you were just going to give them back to anyone who simply changes their mind. I think it's fair.
I don't understand why you can't go through with the purchase though. Surely you can sort out the bounced cheque issue. I wouldn't just let it go and just think "oh well I can't have my new car now". Seems to me like you had buyers remorse and are trying to think of an excuse to back out.
Sorry if some of the replies sound harsh, but I wouldn't hold your breath.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
What use will seeing them do? You've lost the money, it was your fault you couldn't complete.
