i am trying to give him advice, yes i do know what i am talking about it's you that doesn't, MOST cylinders DON'T come with two bosses which you would know if you had the slightest idea, i didn't get nasty with him but you seem to have some kind of chip on your shoulder, i was trying to prevent him wasting his time & causing himself & anyone else serious harm, but i'm sure you will know better going by your name, but ubfortunately you don't so may i suggest you move on & let the ones of us who actually know what they are talking about give the advice needed.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Got an immersion heater question.. anyone know if there is a problem fitting an incoloy 1kw immersion to a stainless steel cylinder. I have been told that if the 1kw immersion has a copper stat pocket there may be a reaction with the stainless steel.Has any one done this/had problems? I have an old copper cylinder now and would like to renew it.
Stainless cylinders are cheaper than copper ones and also have a 10 year warranty. I would like to fit a 27inch immersion in the top of my new cylinder, also an 11inch one in the bottom through the 1/2 in drain/feed.
I cannot find either with an incoloy stat pocket.
Hi.
Maybe you could ask the person who told you this to support their statement with some hard facts, from a reputable source, that can be found online, for example.
I have not had or heard of a problem.
I have changed immersions with corroded pockets. In a copper thermal store (Elson). Water quality and flux residue will give problems in varying degrees.
The fact that immersions are not readily available with incaloy pockets would suggest it's not a problem.

After speaking to a tech guy from Aquastel regarding copper stat pockets he said "We recommend that all incoloy immersions have a stainless steel stat pocket. The reason being, that the way in which S/S cylinders are produced they undergo a pickling process on the inner surface and, even with several flushes through the cylinder some pickling residue can remain. This, mixed with agressive water can attack and cause it to corrode. It would not be covered by the warranty" I have now sourced a company that will supply top/bottom entry immersions(made to measure) with S/S stat pockets with adjustable control thermostat. The price is about the same as a standard !kw immersion Thanks to energysavingexp member for some excellent advice on this subject.16 Sanyo Hit 250s.4kWp SMA 3.8kWp inverter. SW roof. 28° pitch.
