Strange things

Lately, I have been asking for assistance on here re cookies and Javascript but now I have a feeling that I have a virus or some other malware. When I open my laptop and click on Firefox I get a full page of information about cookies from Wikipedia but can't get rid of it. When I start to login to my bank I don't get very far before it tells me there is a problem and I need to shut down and start again.. Also, there is a search area at the top of the page for ASK which I never use and I can't get rid of that either. Can anyone say what is causing all these problems? I have been using a computer for over ten years but still lack the knowledge you all have as I have had no training and always rely on MSE/techie and my grandson.

Post the log from this and we'll take a look for you.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

After clicking LINK this is what I got - Usual download box with the following - "You have chosen to open dds.scr which is a: scr file (593kB) from http://download. bleeping computer.com would you like to save this file " ............................................................................. When I double clicked DDs nothing happened but after starting again the box was empty.

Go into your downloads folder, DDS should be there if you've saved it.

    Double click it.

By the way I still cannot get rid of the Wikipedia page.
I clicked the red cross to close it and Firefox appeared but soon after
the Wikipedia page was back. It is all about cookies which I had
been reading about yesterday and also I was searching for a free Office or just Word which is all I need.

Also, the top of the Wiki page is headed...

Firefox logo HTTP cookie - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
    Mozilla Firefox

It is extremely good of you to try and help me with this.

I'll go to the downloads folder now. If it isn't there do you want me to call it a day with this problem?

Hello John, Maybe you could help then?

State of play is - Turn on computer, click Firefox, normal page
appears but is quickly covered by the Wikipedia page. Can't browse
to my bank from there. Click on Google Chrome, all as should be.
Get to my bank, start entering details to log in.When I get to code page I get a note saying "there is a problem, close down and start
    again"

I then did an AVG full scan -result - O - nothing to report.
    Any ideas?

As also applies in your other post, I suggest you download, install, update and run (the free version of) Malwarebytes' AntiMalware using Full Scan. This may take tens of minutes, depending on how much data you have on your hard disk...

Later... On reading your post again, you seem to have installed (probably by accident, as part of a download of other software) the Ask toolbar. You should be able to get rid of this via Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs.

You're right - we're not getting much feedback, are we!
