Buildings and Contents with no NCD?

I recently had to make a claim on my buildings insurance as a car crashed into the side of our house. We had to pay a £100 excess and were told we would lose our NCD.

Now my questions:

Is there any way to claim back the excess from the driver?

The policy is now up for renewal, and premiums are going to go up considerably due to the loss of NCD (30%). I don't think it was particularly cheap anyway. So can anyone recommend a company which would be competitive with no NCD? Preferably one I can get through Quidco!

TIA

Your insurers should have recovered their losses from the driver (assuming they were insured). If you have legal expenses cover then they should have appointed someone to assist you in recovering your excess and any other expenses incurred.

If this did occur then you NCD shouldnt be impacted as they recovered their outlay... it can however take time for this to happen and therefore you lose it at renewal and it is reinstated when the money is got back. If you stay with the same insurer it should be automatic, if you switch it is more of a headache.

If you dont have legal expenses cover you can claim back the uninsured losses yourself by writting to the other party's insurers out lining what you are claiming for, how much and proof of the losses. If for some reason your premium has gone up due to the incident you could reclaim these from the driver too... effectively he should be indemnifying you ie putting you back in the identical financial position you were in prior to the accident.

Ask your insurance company to confirm the excess and full details of the TP motor insurers and then write to them asking them to repay the excess.

As far as quotes via quidco try the featured companies ie lloydstsb prudential etc for the most competitive quote.
  • Actually, the renewal notice did have legal expenses cover on it, so I need to check whether I had this last year and if so I need to call them and try to sort this out. Maybe it would be worth sticking with them after all if it would make this easier.

Thanks! I love this place, there always seems to be someone who can give you an answer!
