Not had a gas bill since moving in to a new building

We had a new office built in the grounds of a rental property and approached National Grid to fit a gas meter.

I have just realised we haven't had a bill for gas at all since moving in over 12 months ago - I have spoken to British Gas to try to find out who the meter is registered with and they are unable to find a listing for our meter number anywhere, suggesting it hasn't been registered.

What should I do next for the best?

Would it be a good to ring around the main providers, give them the reading and ask them the best price they could charge us for the gas we have used?

You have to approach a gas supplier to install a meter not national grid, if it is a new supply then of course the onus is on you to register with a supplier. The same apply s always - the onus is on the occupier to find out who the supplier is and register if no registered supplier then they are free to register with who they like.

The supplier has to arrange fitting the meter because you choose them as your billing company and the register you, otherwise you would be receiving free elec...plus no agent will do meter work if they haven't been appointed to service the site to charge the supplier for works.'

If you have checked your MPRN, which the distributor would have given you for the supply installation, then you would be free go choose a supplier...but until you have a supplier, no one can bill you and the distributor cannot bill the registered supplied, hence free supply!

So, have you checked the EnergyLynx site will prove how to check this, as well as for an IGT which requires different checks.
