Where to buy a pirate cake?

I made ones years ago by baking a large sponge cake in a tray, then cutting it into a random island shape. I then put it on a large cake board, which I had covered with rolled out blue fondant icing (for the sea).
I covered it with butter icing - coloured green for grass, yellow for sand. Use a fork etc to add texture to the grass. Add yellow icing around the coastline of the island. I sprinkled demerara sugar on the sand to make it glittery. I found some little candy covered chocolate 'nuggets' that looked like shells when sprinkled on the beach.
I then used Lego pirate items - small boats, flag, pirates, treasure chest, spade, etc to decorate the island (you could give these away as gifts to the guests). I can't remember what I did for palm trees although I may well have used the Lego trees.
It wasn't that difficult to make and the children thought it was great!
Hope that might help.0 -
I got a photo cake done for my sons 18th from sainsburys £8.99 it came out really well
can you get hold of a picture/photo of a pirate and do that its easier than making one lol
Have you got a picture of your little one in a pirates costume then use that one0 -
Another vote for the home made pirates treasure chest - I made one for my lads birthday and still get comments about it, and boy I'm no chef!!!
Cover rectangle sponge with choccie buttercream and black liquorice for the straps, split and fill with gold choc coins, gold sweets (pick n mix or quality street/roses), twilight chocs, sweets necklaces/bracelets for the girls etc - plenty of pics in party idea books from WHS or libraries. Good luck!0 -
I thought Tesco's did one with Pirates of the Caribbean on it.
The other homemade ones sound better though
