Washing machine very noisy
hardpressed
My washing maching has become very noisy and is trying to walk around the kitchen. If I turn the drum when it is empty I can hear it grating, is there anything I can do, should I get a man in or is it likely to be terminal?

You didn't put a brick in it did you?

Does sound like the drum is catching on something. When we got our new washing machine, my husband and brother failed to read the instructions when installing it and didn't realise there were four transit screws in the back to stop the drum moving. I put a load of washing on and it crashed about like the house was falling down, walked right out of its slot and gouged the wall!
I doubt there'll be an easy DIY fix. If there is a repairman in the Yellow Pages who'll come and take a look at it without a call-out charge it might be worth getting a quote to get it repaired?0 -
Our washing machine (rented) has a huge gap between the tub and the rubber and small items are getting in there all the time. My washing machine repair guy showed me how to do access the inside after a couple of call-outs. It may be worth searching the net to see if you can find a guide. He did mention that some of the poorer machines don't allow you to do this. Be careful obviously and only do what you feel comfortable doing - no point in taking a risk.0

If its making that kind of sound and sounds likean airplane taking off and gets louder and then quieter with thespeed of the spin the bearings are on there way out.
Our Bosch one was doing that but with no walkingbut was still under warranty, they had to remove the drum to changethe bearings.0 -
the main bearings are the usual suspects.
cost about 10/20 quid and easy enough to change for a diy,er.
a WM man will charge you about 100 quid.
could also be a bra wire (or similar) stuck inside the drum casing.Get some gorm.0 -
Our local repair man came to our 6 year old Bosch. Quoted 280.00 to replace bearings. Called a few others, similar figures.
You tube video shows taking just about every part off washing machine to access drum which needs to be split apart to access bearings.
Did you know, from what I have read, that Domestic & General t&'s do not exclude existing faults from new cover?.
Signed up to 1 year warranty 9 quid a month. Called following day to report fault. Bosch/Siemens engineer came. Calculated cost of repair as 461.00!!!!! and was confident d&g would write off machine. They actually authorised repair. Turns out they pay Bosch a fixed fee of about 120.00 per repair.
2 guys came back a few days later. Replaced entire rear drum assembly including spider, bearings, seals and metal drum.
Still got 11 months and 3 weeks warranty left. Nice0 -
Try clearing out the filter. It could be a hairclip or similar.0

I had a new Zanussi 3kg washing machine delivered 3 weeks ago and when I used it on Friday during the 2nd load of towels the machine made a sort of loud 'thud/bang' noise during the spin and also moved a bit during the spin (which was quite noisy, more so I think than the previous same amount of towels before it). The guys who delivered the machine tested it for me and also sorted out the feet, but could there be something wrong with the machine and should I get someone out?0

Towels are notorious for becoming unbalanced during the wash cycle. A 3kg load is around 2 mid sized towels when wet. You have to bear that sort of thing in mind.
My old beko from 2005 is 5kg and I usually put a max of 3 towels of that size in, even then it occasionally does what you claim yours is doing. When I wash OH's work trousers I only do 3 pairs at a time (heavy weight material). Leaving the extra room, means that they come out cleaner and much fresher than if I say popped in 5 pairs. I very much doubt anything really wrong with your new washer. Read instructions again right through and learn how to use the machine. You may be surprised at what youc an learn.0 -

Thanks for your reply. I have read the instructions and trouble shooting and it suggests the washing machine may not be level (tho doesn't appear to be unstable) or washing not evenly distributed. I usually put 2 bath towels and 3 hand towels in a wash and don't recall this happening with the old Zanussi 3kg (tho it was also noisy on spin!) I'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens again with a different load.0
