for "bad friday" read "black friday"
once again the rich tories attack with a vengence the working class

Well said, the country voted for the coalition they deserved, however looking on the bright side they won't fall for that betrayal trick twice lol - LOL roll on 2015 and Labour's ahead in the polls - not all black Friday!

My own little bet is none of the millionaire csabinet will ever use the phrase ' all in this together' - they ve been rumbled !

Just asked my employer for more hours, she can't afford it and won't be recruiting in Sept!

I don't mean to sound rude but why would a couple only be working 16 hours between them? what is the point in that?

    Nicely put, thanks for that!

Yes, my daughter was made redundant first, then her husband. Theyve been taking it in turns to do the child caring whilst other one gets a few part-time hours. I admire them actually.Extra hours would be lovely for them if they can get them - here's hoping, dont know what theyll do else!

I suppose it's better than not doing any work at all ... most people would take the part time work if there was nothing else available, in the hope that it would lead to extra hours or help them to get the next full time job they applied for.

I don't really understand why a couple only has to work 24 hours between them, when a single childless person must work 30 hours before they are entitled to tax credits.

  • I suppose young single people are more mobile and more flexible in the hours they can work, not tied down to location by schools, childcare, kids needs etc. After all how can those poor hardworking mums afford 15 pounds an hour childcare when theyre only earning 6 !
  • Do you really think that voters are going to fall for all this 'pretend to give with one hand then take away double with the other?' Or even wade through reading all that spiel? No, voters will decide at the weekend, round the family kitchen table when thrashing out what the kids can't have and what's not on the menu, what repayments are being missed. Then they will go to the polls and think 'ok, i'd rather have harsh cuts under a government that carres than under one which doesn't.'

They will soon work out that all gains coming from the higher personal allowance are blitzed out over and again by losses caused by the other cons: today families with children are about £511 worse off when the whole raft of coalition changes in the new tax year are considered. That's what they will work out!

But if you are a couple then 1 person can do the childcare while the other one does the work? I can see how working is more difficult for a lone parent, but surely a couple should be able to do the same number of hours between them that a childless person can?

we got a letter through not long ago. Will be getting around £100 less a month taking our tax credits down to approx £70 a month which covers our monthly childcare costs. would much rather earn my £6.50 an hour for myself :-)
  • yes I see what you mean, but kids need stabilty and consistency in order to grow up good happy citizens. I know so many families where first one partner is lucky enough to get a few hours, then the other, then their shifts cross over, then maybe nothing and a couple of brave families have about 4 part-time jobs between them! Most good parents are trying to give their children a good routine and chopping and changing is unsettling and disturbing for them - not good for the future and will be remembered on polling day!! My next door neighbour says with a hollow laugh that she 'voted for change!' She worked for Peacocks!
