Bigger House - How much are bills?

Ok so I know it can vary depending on peoples behaviours and appliances used etc. But looking for a rough figure if possible. I am due to move out my two bedroom flat shortly and move into a 4 bedroom detached house. There will only be myself and the wife living there and I’m looking at how much bills will cost. I was looking for a rough monthly DD cost of gas and electricity if possible. The house has double glazing etc and gas central heating. Any rough guide would be a great help.

Thing is.., to estimate bills.., its helpful to have a better idea of the insulation in the house. One four bed house with good insulation (perhaps one built in the last 10 years) will cost a lot less in bills than an older house.., possibly with big rooms and high ceilings.

To be honest, I'd ask the present owners for this sort of information rather than depend on answers on here.

    Our bills dropped. :D

We went from a two-bed flat with no water meter (couldn't be fitted) and all-electric (electric heating). We were paying £40 a month for water on rates and electricity was £100 a month (averaged over the year).

We moved to a 1990-built four-bed detached. Water is £21 a month on a meter (there's two of us - MrTeapot and I). Electricity and gas combined are £85 a month. I didn't used to believe people who told me that electric heating was ridiculously expensive but they were right. I only had two storage heaters at the flat!

Council tax is quite a bit more though; up from about £100 to £149.

If it's an old house then expect them to double - that's what happened to me when I did exactly the same as you
Get a water meter fitted though if it's just the two of you
