Insurerer witholding settlement

I've informed the insurers of my wife's car (NFU Mutual) that Swiftcover have passed their engineer's report to BMW Mini. They indicated that they will settle with us and then look to recover costs elsewhere (presumably Mini, if they admit liability) - somewhat different approach to Swiftcover then!
Not that I've seen any money out of either of them yet...0
