Santander Customer Service

Options
I went to a branch the other day to pay in a couple of cheques and a postal order. Haven't had a postal order for about 30 years so didn't really know or think about what to do with it. It didn't have my name written on it unfortunately so the woman at the counter asked someone else what to do. She said she would walk down to the post office and ask them - and soon came back with the money to the value of the postal order in return.

A little thing but with all the moaning about Santander that was far more than I expected. Perhaps everyone is talking about call centre customer service? I'm a new (6 mths or so) bank account holder and long time mortgage account holder when they took over Abbey. Never any troubles yet I have closed HSBC and Lloyds bank accounts in disgust over incorrect charges and payment handling. Also my son has had many problems and outright rudeness from Barclays.

So with the £200 joining bonus, a decent bit of interest and no customer service problems I don't know what the problem is. I could understand if all their competitors were perfect...but in my experience they are no better or far worse.

Santander and customer service should never be mentioned in the same phrase. In the example you've kept they kept you waiting for a basic banking service. I hope they compensated you for not knowing how to do their job. As so often with Santander, it comes back to a lack of adequate training.

I was let down by a Santander staff member but they have put it right. They could have argued with me about it so I am relieved that I do not have to and I am grateful for the new staff member who backed me up.

But then I have also been badly let down by some other financial institutions as well over the last 2 years.

This has been my fault as I have trusted what has been said to me rather then get things in black and white.

Lesson learned, do not believe what people tell you, get everything in writing.
