Oh..so my neighbour's scrote of a son (15) who shoots indiscriminately, is breaking the law, then?

At 15 he is not allowed to own an air rifle and it is the adults responsibility to ensure that he does not have indiscriminate access to it. If he does and more particularly if he is using it on public land or pellets go beyond boundary of private land then both he and the legal owner of the air rifle are commiting an offense read the relevant parts here http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/air-rifles.cfm

That's why I wanted to make sure it was all legal - don't want any trouble with the law.

The kids actually got bored with it after about an hour so the airgun went back in it's cupboard till next time.

It's just that we're minding our grandsons and O/H wants to allow them to shoot at paper targets with him...just want to be sure it's legal.
Can I just ask if you've checked with their parents (both parents) if they're happy with this? Only I really really don't like guns, and would be mega upset if someone looking after them - even my parents, even DH's parents - was using an air rifle for entertainment purposes, especially in the back garden rather than in a fully kitted out and appropriate environment, such as brook2jack describes.

And again, that worries me, that your OH has an air rifle and does not KNOW what the law is relating to it!
