You'll get a Pharaoh bill if you try and use most UK sim cards. Also if you buy a local sim card get it from a reputable re-seller not just some Giza in the souk.

Did a coach holiday to Austria 2 years ago.
This couple from Stroud (Glos) latched onto us.
Bloody nightmare, what with their mobile going off all the time, listening to their daughter's problems in real time, then having it recounted, blah blah.
Must have cost as much in phone calls as the cost of the holiday.
    Never again.

it might not be correct but i was told you can carefully cut down a full size sim to fit, problem you might have is your phone being locked to 02.
as suggested i would take an unlocked phone and buy a local sim.
tripadvisor forums will give you advice also on phonecalls etc.
hope you enjoy your travels i loved egypt

Whats the cheapest way to keep in touch with home when on holiday in Egypt?

Partner wants me to bring ipad & use hotel wi-fi to chat. I'm reluctant to bring a high value electric item. Not even sure if the wi-fi is free - its the Sensatori in Sharm.

Partner is on T-mobile, with an iphone 4S, I'm on O2 with an iphone 4. Home phone is sky.

Was thinking of bringing a cheap (non internet) handset & a PAYG sim.

    Any advice welcome:)

    That was fast!!

  • We're off to El Gouna in about 5 weeks time & I am planning on taking a cheap mobile phone with me & getting a sim card locally just in case of emergency, will be taking a Kindle Fire so can have access to the wifi at the hotel & get onto facebook also. The mobile phone is an unlocked spare one we keep at home in case one of the "good" ones we use goes wrong so it doesn't cost a lot if it goes "missing". Anyhow was wondering what will be the best provider to use whilst over there & how & where we get a sim card from?:A

Every restaurant in Sharm has free wifi.

Just get skype and away you go.
