Hi. My husband has a commercial Union life/Aviva endowment which is due to mature at the end end of June. He phoned Aviva recently and they gave him an estimate over the phone which was sum assured (£8804) plusthe regular bonus (£5646) and the mep (£5000) He was also told the terminal bonus would be sum assured plus regular bonus x 43% (£6213). Although they can't guarantee these figures at least it gave him a ball park figure on what to expect. So my advice is to phone Aviva.

    Endowment Breakdown.

Value of your Life With Profits units £20985.44
    Final Bonus. £12827.23
    Mortgage Endowment Promise top-up £11405.00
    Maturity value £45217.67
  • My Standard Life Homeplan matured Monday, money in the bank Thursday.

    Monthly payment £41
    Target amount £33250
    Payout £28400
Payout made up of £13500 value of life with profits units
    £7950 final bonus
£6950 mep despite letters for many years saying £4170 max

Also over the years, received shares in Standard Life. 1450 currently@ £3.64 = £5270

The mortgage was paid off several years ago, so overall I'm pretty happy.

    Got my maturity letter today

Premium £89.20 pm (although lower in first 5 years)

    Target £60,732

    Payable

    Basic sum assured £22,340
    Annual Bonuses £12,655
Final Bonus £4,303 (still not guaranteed)
    Total £39,308

Despite only 5 1/2 weeks to go they are still saying the final bonus is not guaranteed and I will not know the final amount until the big day itself. They have been quoting me the £39,300 number since last September so I have a genuine concern they will look at the final bonus one more time and maybe reduce or withdraw it.

    In summary

With final bonus (above) 35% below target

Without final bounus 42% below target

Sadly the only thing guaranteed with Legal & General is disappointment.

I hereby nominate this as the worst endowment policy ever.

Unless, of course, anyone knows different.....
  • Unitised with profits and unit linked funds statement.

This is a 25 year policy taken out for £60,000 which matures in Feb 2018.

I have paid £82.80 for 25 years which by my reckoning amounts to
    £24,840.

    Todays statement says:

    Basic Units: £19106.087
    Previous Bonus Units £5679.016
    New Bonus Units: £282.378

Total with profits value as at 31/12/2016: £25,067.48

Am I missing something or is this policy not even going to get to £30,000

    :(
  • Some informative posts here, thanks to all these who posted here.

My Standard Life W/P Homeplan policy matures on Friday, having paid in without fail for 25 years. I already know the illustrative value when they posted me a letter 6 weeks ago. I will be keen to see what's the final figure once they include the terminal bonus and MEP payment.

The mortgage was paid off in 2003. I don't think I want another mortgage!

My aviva endowment paid out a week ago and was exactly the same value as the estimate 6 weeks before

Now I have the issue that they are telling me I have to pay tax on the gain.
  • I have a 20 year versatile endowment with Scottish Widows which matures next month.
I have paid £25 a month for 20 years so £6000 in premiums.
Sum assured was just £4960, bonus to date make it just over £6000.
The letter received at the weekend states the estimated maturity value is £8683, but this may change.
My question how likely is this and will it be much.
Overall had I received any value in paying these premiums for the suggested return.
I have no figures to date on how this figure has been estimated
