Draw Something App Not Compatible With all Phones

stupid question, but is ther a reason why the Draw Something app isn't compatible with all android phones?

My son has recently become employed after a period of unemployment (hurrah) and now he's back on his feet, he wants to treat himself to a cheap android phone, because of the apps. His friends have Samsung something or others and are told 'not compatible'. But he's really like to be able to play this with his workmates. Is there a way of knowing which phones are compatible?

I tried google, but it didn't help, too technical lol.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and it works fine. A friend of mine has the S2 which again, works perfectly.

  • You need a phone with android version 2.3 or higher, then it should be compatible.

Lots of cheap handsets only have older versions

I got a Samsung Galaxy Ace with Android 2.3 for around £129 (on PAYG) and I'm playing "Draw Something" on it.

Only if the manufacturers have written an update for it.. which is usually not the case with cheaper phones. HTC seems quite good for providing updates. Samsung aren't as good

What budget do you have to get the phone with? Does it have to be for a particular network?

Some apps are not compatible with certain phones due to the screen size, this is the case with certain apps and the HTC Wildfire (e.g. Words With Friends). There are ways around this and the apps tend to run fine anyway (albeit sometimes they look a bit squashed up)

Not entirely true, you might be able to update it yourself.

He prefers vodafone, but I don't think he's too fussed ~ maybe because everyone he knows is on vodafone, do they do a special deal for phoning friends?

Anyhoo, his budget is about £100, so perhaps he'll find it tough to find something he likes that will serve him well for a while.

Apps like this use data (mobile internet) rather than speech. He will need to check-out the costs of mobile data on PAYG rather than whether or not he has free calls to fellow Vodaphone users.

For info. '3' do an 'all you can eat' Sim which includes free calls to any network (about 200 minutes I believe). I use the contract version as I can then get a new phone every couple of years. Whenever I need to phone a mobile number, I use my mobile. Cost of call = £0.00.

Saw an advert in the paper this week that '3' are doing the Samsung Galaxy Ace for £99 until April 11th.
