Lane discipline

Do people really not know about this?

Was just driving along the A406, a car in the right hand lane (of three) a police car came up behind (no siren on, but 'making progress'), so he moved over to the middle lane, in front of another car. All three lanes were empty, so what did he do when the police car passed?

Signalled right, moved into the right-hand lane and stayed there all the way to Hanger Lane (about 6 miles).

Have been known to undertake using lane 1 when they are in lane 3. Wasn't quiet enough for that though.

We have the same annoying muppets down here, particulalry on the four lane stretches, where hardly anyone uses the inside lane, even on quiet days. Some people obviously feel that it is uncool to drive properly, maybe using the inside lane makes them look weak or something.
If they went over to Europe then they would suffer a lot of aggressive tailgating and flashing lights.
  • I remember a few years back, driving late at night on an empty M40, muppet in a Focus, comes up a slip road and straight into lane 3 and sat there at about 60mph, I was doing 70 and actually undertook him on the inside lane, don't these people remember anything they learnt prior to taking their test. And before someone picks me up on undertaking on the inside, yes you shouldn't do it, however there was a clear lane between us so it was a safe maneuver, also, moving out to lane 3 and flashing headlights might have provoked a fued.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

A guy I work with took me to pick up a truck a few weeks ago, the route included 6 miles of dual carriageway.

The moment he got on the DC he moved to the outside lane & sat there for the whole 6 miles.... even though the inside lane was clear!

I asked him why & he said "It's easier than having to pull out if I have to overtake something"...
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!

There is no specific law against undertaking. They have to get you on driving without due care and attention.

Since you wern't weaving about between lanes to get past this person, and can clearly demonstrate how the manoeuvre was safe, it would be hard to make this charge stick.

You'd hope that the lane 3 muppet would be the one charged with due care and attention.

The charge would be driving without due consideration.

Close enough, and my point remains the same, that they'd have to prove crap driving, and it would be hard to argue that undertaking in L1 when the muppet is in L3 is in any way dangerous or ill thought out.

I think the problem is that people have been so vilified using the middle lane continuously that they feel the need to drive elsewhere. Of course using L1 does not appear to have occurred to them.
