Having an interesting time with these at the moment.

My poor little cat has colitis which comes and goes every 3 - 4 months. We always get it sorted with a course of anti inflammatory tablets and some probiotic paste which we get from the vets.

We have recently been given a long term treatment plan to try and get rid of it once and for all which meant the cost came in over our policy excess so we decided to claim.

Filled the forms in, gave them to the vets and then they sent it all off for us. Get an email about a week later from E & L to say they are putting in an exclusion about issues with the cats ears and related problems. Quick phone call and find out that because he had problems before which we claimed for on an old pet insurance (not E & L) but we let them know of a pre existing condition when we first took the policy in 2010. They claim I never put the details on there.

I then receive an email with the following:
We can advise that a thorough review of liability has been undertaken and we regret that we are unable to accept liability for your claim. Woody’s treatment commenced on the 20/06/2011 but we were not advised of this treatment until your correspondence of 26/03/2012. It is therefore apparent therefore that this policy requirement has not been adhered to and would ask that in the event of future claims we are advised immediately when veterinary treatment is required and ongoing.

However, upon further review of your claim we have decided to proceed to settlement on this occasion on a strictly ex-gratia basis. Please be advised that this is a one-off payment as a gesture of goodwill. No further fees incurred by the treatment of this condition will be considered.

How can they say that they won't cover it then they will pay out but won't pay out on any further treatment???

They are not called E and Hell for nothing.

Maybe they are admitting they failed to ask all the right questions when you took out the policy, Or have lost the information you gave?

Maybe they are not sure and not worth the risk of you making a complaint?

If you can prove you notified them of everything then a complaint should be made. Is it in the contract that you should notify them of any and all treatment?

    E&L or pet-insurance.co.uk are a terrible company, a disgrace.
