Help to get rid of sub titles

We bought a HD ready Tv from sainsburys - mkae TWF? plus have the new NTL box.
We seem to have subtitles for all programmes and cannot seemt o fathom how to stop it - any advice please.

Here is something that may help ive just found

SUBTITLES - ANALOGUE
On your TV remote (not your ntl remote), simply press your equivalent to the TEXT button and enter 888.

SUBTITLES - DIGITAL
You can access your ntl digital subtitles in two different ways, depending on the colour of the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG).
Blue
Press the GUIDE button on your ntl remote.
Move the highlight to the SETTINGS icon and select.
From the Settings screen select option 2, Visual settings.
Turn subtitles on.
You also have 'fast access' to them via the Mini guide screen:
Press the TV button to display the Mini guide.
If the programme supports subtitles, the green coloured button will say "Turn subtitles on".
Press the green button and the subtitles will be turned on.

Purple
Press the GUIDE button on your ntl remote.
Highlight option 5, and select Settings.
Choose option 5 for Further Settings.
Turn subtitles on.

i have an opposite query:p i cant get my subtitles on my sky i use it all the time (noisy kids) and now all of a sudden i cant get it on, i normally use a button on the right hand side of sky control and then flick it to 'on' simple as that but even though when i flick it to on it wont come on any ideas
