in Credit cards
Hi,
Just a quick question I am hoping someone can help with...I received a letter from Moorgate today telling me that an old credit card account had been sold to them...
As far as I was aware the account had been closed...are they still allowed to sell my information on like that?
Thanks

It the debt wasn't paid yes.0 -
Does it mention the credit card company? and was it a bank you had a card with?
Is your name accurate and correct on the letter?
If you didn't have an unpaid debt then it could be a fishing letter sent out to lots of people with the same name as the true debtor.
Or it could be a debt that you didn't realise or had forgotten was not cleared.
the usual advice is to start by sending a copy of the prove it letter (not to call them) - template here
Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letterA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
It does mention the bank I had the account with and the account number I had...
I did call them to see what the balance was and it is zero - but found out they hold my date of birth too...and I'm a bit miffed that they have all my personal details!0 -

Thats different then.0 -
OP could it be that when you enquired about the balance on the card, the reason they might have said nil, was that it had already been passed on to a collections agency?
Not accusing here merely speculating.0 -
MBNA have sent many zero statements and I called Moorgate - there is definetly no balance owing - I'm confident of that.
Just hacks me off they sold my details when I closed the account, and I wondered if I had a complaint as MBNA are reasonably near the top of my 'Companies I HATE' list
I probably need to get out more

If they have been sending you zero statements then your account has not been closed and MBNA have sold lots to Moorgate as they are leaving the UK market.
If however you did close the account and have not had any statements since then I would follow MBNA's complaints procedure.0
