first time selling and solicitors fees

hiya, i recieved a quote of the estate agent sfor solicitors fees regarding selling my flat and i agreed to use thier solicitor and paid a small fee to do so.

ive just had contact from solicitor and upon reading it it says the estate agent gets a referral fee of £547 and that the agent should of told me about a referaal fee but they never (the total fees work out to about £1300

ive never sold a property before is this reasonable. i have quickly googled and found some quotes half this price but obviously do not know if the solicitors are any good.

im in essex so if any one can recommend a good one

thankyou for taking the time to read this . x

Go to another solicitor. Why should the state agent get £547?

How much are you selling for? Is it a flat or a house?

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

What was the fee you already paid, and how much was it for?

What makes you think that this solicitor is any good? The fact that he was 'recommended' by an estate agent who received a £547 referral fee (AND a direct fee from you)?

NEVER use an agent-referred solicitor. Or financial advisor. Or EPC provider. Find your own.

Shop around - when comparing conveyancing quotes, watch out for the hidden extras in cheaper ones - read more here.

Agree with all the others here, find your own solicitors, contact at least 3 and get estimates for their work. The main charge to look out for & compare is the actual legal fee as most of the other charges will be pretty standard.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I just sold my one bed flat. Solicitors fees were £799 +vat. £1300 is too much IMO.
