We've had this car over 3 years from new and have driven 35000 trouble free miles. The boot area is a bit small but the payoff is legroom for the back seat passengers, something lacking in say the Astra! The 6 speed auto gearbox is good but can catch you out if almost coming to a stop at a junction and then trying to pull away. It can then have a think about which gear is best and that delay of a second or so can instigate panic as traffic hurtles towards you. Other than that it's a great small family hatchback, though like most, nowhere near as economical as the government figures suggest, but still quite good and £35 a year to tax. I'd have another, especially as the new one is a bit bigger.

The older model quoted 60+ mpg mixed driving yet most road tests got less than 50mpg mixed driving.

Again the older model used to have its moments when changing gears, Oh a gap...floor it, Pause whilst it selects a gear.. Too late gaps gone.

Have a good test drive before you commit to buying one.

many thanks for your input :)

this may sound really daft question but how does the Automatic electric parking brake work, does it mean the car will automaticlty apply the brakes when your at a stand still?

also will the car "hold" on a hill start with out the need to apply the brakes myself ?
    many thanks

Not sure if this is the same robotised manual style box that I had in a 5008 recently - if so it's pretty poor. Very, very long time between gear changes in manual mode as above, couldn't decide what gear it wanted to be in at any given speed then when it did pick one it seemed to be a hugely innapropriate gear.

Better with a traditional slushbox than this one if it's the same one. It had an electronic parking brake, did not automatically come on once at a standstill but auto released when hill starting as per your post. I also found the fact that it did not hold in first like a traditional auto (and the vag dsg boxes) very hard to adjust to

All semi-auto 1.6 diesel PSA (Peugeot Citroen Group) cars come with this transmission.

You have to keep in mind that it is a normal manual transmission with automated gear changes and automated clutch. It is very gentle on clutch and designed with fuel economy in mind. However, it is very slow (most of the time) and personally I find it very frustrating (drove a 3008 for a day). It seems to have only one driving mode available: OAP.

Most auto transmissions have computers adjusting them to you driving style, with the EGS you need to adjust your driving style first.

Before buying one make sure you test drive it extensively.

Re: 1.6 HDI engine - it is the good old Peugeot/Citroen engine also used by Ford. Very reliable and great performance but requiring regular oil changes to keep the turbo and DPF happy (the service schedule list only the maximum recommended distances between services).

many thanks to everyone so far:)

i assume the parking brake is like the handbrake but is done automaticly by the car.

so if you are stopped in traffic i assume the engines cuts out due to the "stop and start feature", does the auto park then apply itself and when you put your foot back on the throttle realise again ?
