Scooter Security

Afternoon All

I've just bought a new scooter and was looking for some tips and advice about the best security set-up for it.

It's going to be parked in a car park by my flat, so I'd be looking at getting a heavy-duty chain to attach it to some railings, a cover that can be tightened around the bottom and padlocked and an alarmed disc lock. I've had a look online but there's so many different brands and types and a huge price range that I don't know where to start.

I realise that if someone wants to steal it that badly then they will, but I'd like to discourage them as much as possible, so if anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful :j

If stolen it'll be by wheeling it into the back of p!key transit van, not by starting it and driving/riding away into the sunset. Base your security measures around that.....

Your locks will only be as strong as the railings you lock them to.......

I was planning on chaining the scooter to a lamp post in view of my flat, and about 70 other living room windows :o

I was looking at disc lock alarms that are activated when the scooter's moved or tilted - do these tend to work as well as they claim, or should I get a built in alarm instead?

There may be a loop in the frame underneath the footboards which is big enough to loop the chain through. Failing that if you get a chain that is long enough to wrap around the footboard and can then secure it around the lamp post that should work.

The Sold Secure website should be of some help too.

Look for almax chains they are supposed to be the best. would be a heavy chain and would be best left at the railings or lamp post.

Look on youtube. Plenty of tests show how easy it is to remove some locks and chains. Lots can be removed quicker than you can with the key.

70 windows overlooking it yet if it does vanish i bet nobody saw anything.

I thought about the frame loop on mine but that would have been the weakpoint, Its only steel and could be cut through a lot easier than a chain or padlock.

One issue is do you intend on carrying your security with you or leaving it behind?
If you take it away you need the space to store it all. If leaving it behind your likely to come home one day and find your key wont go in the lock.
They will have filled and glued the lock. Stopping you from using it.

They hope you leave it unattended.

As you said if they want it you cannot stop them.

get a rated chain and a good quality secure padlock which is rated because with a chain like I have it's just the chain then you can choose any padlock you want so go for a chain then a high quality rated and tested padlock
