Hi all,
I have had a search but most of the threads seem to be quite old in relation to Persimmon Homes and I wanted recent experience if possible.
My husband and I need to buy our 'forever' home over the next year because our eldest needs to be settled (currently we have to move every 2 years because of my husbands job).
We have my house on the market and am looking in the Lincolnshire or Norfolk area, although Lincolnshire would be easier because then we could continue to live together.
Anyway, clearly the market is not great at the moment and we are thinking about part exchanging for this development:

Has anyone got any feedback on Persimmon with regard to the build quality and ease of transaction? We are currently living abroad which makes things even more difficult, but do have family/friends in the area that can give us feedback if required.
Regards,
G x

New builds= no thanks..never again, i got stitched up once and refuse to again..crap quality and crap builds.
Good luck as some people enjoy paying over the odds for that new look..
As for the builder it must depend on the house and its quality but some are very poor. ie teapot houses or rabbit hutches with 8x10 bedrooms..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
The house doesn't look too bad but I would seriously think twice about buying a new house ever again. In fact I wouldn't, that's a fact. from day one I have had issues and we could have pulled out but due to certain circumstances we decided to go along with the sales office telling us all these problems would be resolved. They still haven't been 4 years on. To add insult to injury, I have found a rather large crack in my garage wall which between Saturday and Tuesday had grown by 4 bricks. You could say that this is something that could just happen, but seeing that I called the NHBC out in June 2010 to resolve the rather large crack in the garage floor and nothing was done about it shows how good the NHBC are. Another absolute waste of time. Now the crack in the floor joins up rather nicely with the crack in the wall. First person I have asked for advice has explained that the garge will have to be demolished and then re built. Quality. My central heating still comes on when it is all switched off but the builder won't fix it. Two big panels of bricks were all chipped big time, what did they do to these, just painted them, the window fitters had screwed up through the sills and into the opening windows and then just cut the screw heads off and now all window frames are totally wrecked, the list goes on and I mean ON. I think by now you will be getting the picture. I tried to take the builder to court on my house insurance but when this went to the barrister he didn't believe we had more than a fifty per cent chance of winning so they kicked that out. This was due to me telling the builders that they could not come back on to site as 75% of the time they made the job worse, left a mess and wasted my time. Customer Care has been a disgrace.
I also live in Lincolnshire and I know the estate that you are talking about. All that I can say is that it is in the middle of nowhere. This wouldn't be my cup of tea. All in all, if I had to buy another house I would look at one that has been built for a good few years, get a really good survey carried out so you will hopefully know all the problems that exist and get good competent tradesmen to carry out improvements and withhold the money until you are satisfied with the outcome. Totally agree with all the comments made by the second poster.
Good Luck0 -
Glass must be dearer that gold these days. Those windows are tiny in comparison to the overall frontage of the house. Cheap looking kitchen and bathroom as well.
A quick google search reveals.....

I dont have anything positive to say about this company. We had a nightmare with them. I think our problem was we bought off plan so agrreed to purchase before any houses on our estate were built. They dragged the build of our house out for months and months actually 4 months after we were promised it would have been built. They finished the houses that weren't sold first, suppose to them they had a sale on our house so we could wait. I was not the only buyer on our estate we all had major problems.
We went through hell once we got moved in and had 2 full A4 sheets of snagging, well major faults one being an internal wall not secured to the floor.
Perhaps if the house is fully built then you might be okay but the experience we had now means we wont ever buy a new build again I just couldn't go through the stress again.
Anyway good luck with whatever you decide.Feb 2012 Grocery Challenge £200/£4.00

I am so glad I asked the question instead of jumping in with both feet. I think we will move back, rent and then look.
The idea of dealing with sheer incompetence fills me with dread! I would rather live with paying rent and the mortgage for a while.
Thank you all for saving me from a fate worse than death.

That seems a very sensible decision!
I would not buy a new property from most major developers. They construct to a (cheap) price and generally employ the cheapest available subcontractors.
There is so much pressure to build and sell within a short time frame that even those who could do a good job are not able to.
Even with developers who have better standards, so much can depend on unknown things - eg the quality of the individual site manager/agent can make a big difference (for better or worse).
It is possible to buy a new home that has been well constructed - but you are currently not in the UK and would be relying mainly on feedback from friends, which is far from ideal.0 -
Tbh my husband is the one keen on a new build. He has never owned property before though. I am going to drag him round to all the lovely properties that are not new build and that have the massive garden and everything else he craves. That will persuade him!Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

Agree with the depends on workers on the ground, my parent's street was accidentally built 6 foot narrower than it should be from the plans! apparently the manager was sacked after that came to light but it's something anyone visiting and living in that street has to live withLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6
