Sky Router versus Vista

I've been trying to sort out my friends laptop now to connect to his Sky route wirelessly. It will connect fine ok via cable but wirelessly it won't even detect it as an available connection.
I have done the usual trawl through the net and tried the Microsoft fix, which keeps coming up with an error message when i try to install it. In turn I have done the fix associated with this error to set up vbscript on Vista but still cannot get the thing to do what i want it to.
I have made sure that his c,mputer is up to date via update. I can connect other devices to the router so I know it's not a router issue.
Has anyone please got any ideas?

my friend had the same problem with a sky router and a laptop running vista, her laptop was an emachine, after she tried ringing sky several times i had a go, after exhausting every possibility with the person on the phone he told me to unplug everything then ring back, so i refused to do that and asked if there were any people reporting problems, he admited there was and sugested that i ring microsoft to ask if there was a patch, so the situation remained unsolved, she is now using a wireless dongle,0

I know you have said you have updated the computer but have you updated the wireless card, it could be that its still on old firmware that wont recognise the frequency the router is using (wireless n etc):beer:0

Thanks for the replies. From my limited understanding it is something to do with the Vista not recognising some setting within the Sky setup.
I'm still stumped so will continue looking. Will post again if I find something that works0 -
I have seen a very similar problem before. It was a setting in the registry that dealt with the way the dhcp protocol was processed. You need to change the BROADCAST flag.
Give this a try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

Thanks for the pointer, I tried that hotfix. I got to a certain point it that t
hen refused to go any further and quoted an error code. This related to something called VB script so did what it wanted and still wouldn.t install.
Why cant Sky make routers that work with it? Daft!0 -
I think its your pc as opposed to to the router .I've had vista basic running with sky for uears on a netgear router out of the box no problem with a compaq pc .Can the pc see any other wireless signals. do you have any other wirless kit that could be used to see if the routers broadcasting ie an android phone or a ds maybe . This would point to one or the other . From what i read your assuming its sending a wifi signal .0

It recognises and connects to other networks and my non vista gadgets recognise and connect to the router so dont rhink its a hardware issue with either.0
