How many times have you got rejected from your perfect job?

In my 4 months of unemployment I've never came across a job that matches my skills perfectly until this one, its actually with my very first employer, I only left as they closed their local factory, I had my CV emailed minutes after it hit the job market, but I realise life is far from perfect so I am not allowing myself to get excited about this vacancy as it probably won't happen, or will it? How many times have you came across a job that matches your skill perfectly and how many times have you got the job or been rejected? I know even when I was working in my last job I had always wanted out and searched the job market every week and even then I never came across a job as well suited as this so this job appearing is a very rare thing indeed.

If you sent your CV so quickly, did you make sure it was tailored to ensure it covered all that they were asking for? You may know it's right, but you need to be sure that they get that message too.

Good luck though, you should hopefully stand out!

Assume not and then anything else is a bonus. Stand out from the crowd by calling them to follow up your application and tell them how keen you are etc.

There have been a fair few jobs I matched very well and in the same industry that I have 20 yrs experience in and have never heard back on even for one the other week on Reed where I was the 4th person to apply! Makes me very sad indeed.

This is also what worries me and what I think will happen, I don't have as much choice as you either, as I say its been a long time since I seen a job like this advertised, in an ideal world things would work out but one thing I've learned from unemployment is things rarely work out, I know several of my co workers have also applied who are currently working, I would bet one of them will get it.

Having said that I am even applying for stuff that I wouldn't do of course if I was working and still no luck.

On another note - Had a chat with my old supervisor last night and they are interviewing for a junior accounts person. Had 258 CV's, only read 150 and are interviewing 10. 1st interview was very bad and he has no idea what they are going to do if the other 9 are rubbish! Some never even sent a cover leter, some where dismissed as they were too senior (yes people that happens and I know most of you do not believe me). He has asfter speaking to me and knowing what I am dealing with promised all the people who attend the 1st interview an email by the end of play on Thursday to tell them if they are in to the second round of interviews. He has told HR we can not keep them waiting and they also need to email all the others who never made the interview.
  • There have been a few roles which are basically the same as what im doing now - but i enjoy my job now and apart from having to work a few nights to get projects completed I would say this is perfect for me. Heavy workload at times but thats what keeps me going. Especially when I have days/weeks when im ahead of my programme so i can sit back and relax and do the work at me own pace.

So ive never really been for anything else in the last 10 years,

We've got a law in Northern Ireland stating all jobs have to be advertised due to fair employment regulations, so another issue you hit over here is you may actually be applying for a job that no longer exists, someone in management could of given a relative a job but that job still has to be advertised even though the vacancy has been filled so you never actually know when applying for a job if there is a job or employers are just covering there backs and the vast majority of jobs go via word of mouth, same thing applys here.

I interview people from time to time.

Yes appearance matters, but so does enthusiasm. What ever job it is you are in fact selling yourself. People can be trained within reason, what can not be trained and is instead earned is having a personality, having a good nature.

I really hope that you get this interview as it seems that you really want it, and when you want something this bad you will make it happen.

Loved the suggestion about calling them to make sure they got your CV.

No-one has ever done that to me and it is a shame as I know it would make them stand out and at least make me want to find out who they where and what they where about.

    Good luck.
