you're obsessed with BTL, literally obsessed. you seem to love it, to be one of its biggest advocates on the planet. yet in middle age you've never [AFAIK] owned one. i'm struggling to square this circle, any insights?

He did pull the cash from other (unknown) investments to buy one some several months back however. Just not bought in yet. For some reason. Wonder what that reason could be?! ;)

For all you know Hamish could have bought numerous BTL properties in 2007 at peak price.

    PLUS equity built.;)

After 25 years, someone else bought you a house.

And paid you a bit on top for the privilege of doing so.

Very nice of them too, I may add. :D

They have also paid for somewhere to live for themselves, which, after all, is what houses are for, without any cost of maintaining it

It's naive to think the cost of maintenance is not factored into the rent.

Generaly the tenants are covering maintenance which may not be required during their tenancy

Nah - rents are purely demand driven. If the most a punter will pay is half the interest costs alone then that's what the LL charges. Same applies if the most a punter will pay is a zillion pounds a month.
    FACT.

May will be the start of the big falls once the stamp duty and the higher mortgage rates filter through.

I must have missed the big falls....

    ....and the higher mortgages rates.

I think the falls happened a few years ago around 2008 ish. Not sure about the higher mortgage rates I must have missed those too.

I think he and Nollag were arguing over who had the most buy-to-lets and things got a bit out of hand.

I really miss Nollag. I had wanted to start my very own BTL empire and was hoping for a few tips from the master.

That would have been ill advised. He had problems remembering where his BTL's were. One day they were in Hounslow then Ealing, Fulham or Clapham.:rotfl:
