getting maps onto android phone eg gpx

hi all
i am planning to ride my bike from london to paris and have found gpx and other formats of file with the route.
i have a htc wildfire phone and it has a maps app which i think is basically google maps for the android.
what i want to do is download this route onto my phone so i can refer to it when i am riding and avoid getting lost.
also is it possible to make the maps available off line to avoid data charges when in france?

Have you tried Navfree? Some comments from users that its use of openmaps means it's not always up to date, but worth a look, I'd say.

If it runs Android, why not use 'Googlemaps' ?. Its free, up to date and can show local landmarks.

Theres lots of legal ways to get the relevant maps without having to purchase them..

thank you - downloaded mmtracker free version, which apparently can import gpx files. first though i need a map, so need to find a free qct format map from somewhere.

anyone know where i can download a qct map to put on my phone, only need south east england and northern france?
