RBS scam letter

Hi
I lost my wallet containing RBS debit card recently. The card is now cancelled and new one is on its way.
I received letter in a post today claiming to be from Royal Bank of Scotland. Here are things that make me think it's fake:
- the white envolope is A4 and contains stamps from the bank including its address to 'Mailroom' as opposed brown A5 'Private and Confidential', letter itself is not folded
- letter is in black and white which is odd considering all my previous mail was in colour
- the title says I'm a Silver Account customer which is not true
- the Supervisor writing it asks me to phone up mobile number supposedly in Manchester to confirm that I agree with new policy regarding my account and doesn't provide any landline
Should I notify RBS somehow about it? Seems like someone is trying to get into my money using lost debit card. Will they be able to withdraw any funds?
Thanks in advance.

Oh dear.
Lets post on a forum and ask advice from people who probably couldn't say for definite if it is a scam.
Lets not just call up, or pop in, to the bank in question and let them investigate it, and tell me for definite...
Not being nasty, but use common sense here!
Anything you get that makes you suspicious, call them up using a trusted number and ask!0 -
You're a moron.0

i think your the Moron. The fact you need to ask this question proves it. Of course its a scam. I would take it to the Police. That letter needs fingerprinted. surely the mobile number is a PAYG, but you never know these morans may be using a contract phone which means the plod can find them easily.
Use your head, thats why your were given a brain!Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Yes, let your bank know.
No, they won't be able to access your money.
Looks like a particularly low grade attempt at fraud to me, not very sophisticated.0 -
Thank you for your reply Paul_01. I have never had any kind of experience with banking fraud so got a bit scared. Still have no idea how did they obtained my address though.0

Tell me your real name and where you lost the card together with the sort code of the account and I would expect to have a good chance of finding you.0 -
How? How on earth is it possible to find someone's address from reading debit card details?0

The sort code and name will give you a (likely) geographical area to search in.
For many people, once you have this, you can find the address through Google, Facebook, current/old Electoral Rolls/Telephone Directories, etc.0 -
That looks very likely to be a fraud or scam letter.
You're right in being suspicious about there only being a mobile number on there. As it happens RBS does have a massive centre in Manchester. What address do they have on the letter?0
