PC problem - error 0xc00000e9 -"Hard disk failed"

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this, have asked elsewhere but nothing suggested seems to work.
I've been having problems with my netbook in that it just won't start up. I've tried booting to the last good configuration but nothing loads and it ends up back to an error screen which says "error 0xc00000e9".
I also went to the F10 screen and did a harddisk test and it said "harddisk test failed"
Did a bit more googling and tried opening the back to see if the hard disk had come unclipped but all seemed ok.
Alt and f4 (which someone else suggested) takes me to a page which says...
"choose and operating system to start, or press tab to select a tool:
Windows 7 "
All I can choose it the one option which is there (Windows 7) then it takes me to another "windows error recovery" screen and the options are:
Launch Startup repair
Start windows normally
Tried both options and it takes me to "windows is loading files...."
nothing loads. Takes me back to the 0xc00000e9 error.
Can anyone else suggest anything else to try or is it just a case of buying and fitting a new hard drive?
Thanks.

Do you have another PC you could use? Do it from there (that's if they gave you any recover discs).
Other wise run Hiren's Boot CD and run the hard drive test programs0 -
Sorry, deleted my post as am getting frustrated as most of the pages I've read might as well be in another language.
I'm on another PC now and went to the Hiren's page that you linked but can't even figure out how to d/l it.
ETA: ok I've figured out how to d/l it.
For what it's worth the dead netbook is a pavillion dm1, it didn't come with any disks at all.0 -
No, they don't come with disks. It will have told you to create a backup recovery media though, either using disks or an external hard drive. Next time, do as it says!0

Thanks.
The netbooks hard drive test has told you what the problem is, the HDD is dead. The solution is to get another one.
Quite why you're wasting time fannying around is beyond me.0 -
Fair play, I need a new hard drive. I will order one.
My next problem is the lack of Windows 7. The new hard drive will be blank and I don't have the OS backed up (and it didn't come with any CDs) so I also need a copy of Windows 7?0 -

Well you'll need to 'buy' a licence and install from a USB pen drive.0 -
Well you'll need to 'buy' a licence and install from a USB pen drive.
Why would they need to 'buy' a licence when they already have a valid one. A new copy of Windows is not required simply because the hard disk has failed, just a WIN 7 iso. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You can download an .iso of Windows 7 here:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-links/
Once it's downloaded you need to copy the .iso file to a blank dvd - I use the freeware "Imageburn" for this: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
However, you may have an HP OEM licence for your version of Win 7 so the licence may not activate with the downloaded copy. In which case your only solution maybe to buy a new licence which is about £70 from some online retailers.0 -
Thanks for the link Knarf44 been trying to figure out how to get the iso for my version of windows 7, is that the sp1 release or the previous non-sp1 ?
anyway using the above link and then clicking home i found the sp1 release
http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/ here, which if you read the replies section and read the following.vivsupport January 3, 2012 at 10:41 pm
I have Windows 7 Professional on my Laptop with an OEM License, my recovery partition is unrepairable, will I be able to use this Retail ISO with my unactivated OEM License? Thanks in advance.

Should work. I did the same with win7 home premium. Just enter your key (at the bottom of the laptop or in your documentation) and validate online when prompted.0
