Making your first sale

How difficult is it to sell items on Ebay for a reasonable price? I have some PC games, university books etc but I'm not sure if they would sell or not. How hard is the first sale?

Just one tip, your uni books might go better on Amazon, check out the first few posts on the long (very long) Amazon thread for tips. The advantage is you can do that straight away and leave them there while you sort out the ebay side of things.

its an auction, so therefore (like any auction) no one can say with certaincy what price any item will bring. thats the exciting bit, both for sellers and buyers.
as you can see from reading posts here on MSE, there are some real bargains on ebay for buyers, and some really good sales for the sellers.
    Get some gorm.
  • I agree with Soolin about uni books.

However i did sell all mine on ebay and they went for really good prices (especially as i'd bought most of them 2nd hand) , but the best time to sell them is october/nov when students have just got their reading lists.

If you're selling your books on ebay make sure you weigh them to calculate the postage, some of mine were massive and cost alot to post. (although it didn't stop them selling!)

Depends what you are selling and what you define as reasonable. ;)
    I have some PC games

These tend to be a mixed bag. Some go for next to nothing (which can be frustrating given how expensive they are to buy new), not least because many PC Games come out on budget labels so can be picked up brand new for a few quid. Some however do pretty well, especially if they are a cult classic and didn't ever appear on a budget label, or if they are still relatively new and only available at full price in the shops.

The best thing to do, as with all items, is to do a search on ebay to see what the going price is. You can not only do a normal search to see what is currently being sold, but you can also do an advanced search, and choose to search for completed listings, as this will give you a good indication as to whether the item is likely to sell and how much for.

    Good luck! :)
