As long as the computer has IDE connectors on the motherboard, then yes.
The computer would just see it as another drive."Getting Married" - The act of betting half of everything you own on the fact you will love someone forever :rotfl:0 -
Hi I have just got a new motherboard which has both sata and ide on you might want to look in your motherboard book which you should have got with your pc and it should tell you if you can. you should have a map in the book of your motherboard look down the right-hand side of the map to see if there are any IDE points,

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Whats the likelyhood of a P4 3.0ghz machine with 1gb memory and 250gb sata hd having a board with IDE too? I know this maybe a very open question so apologies.
We currently have a 1.2ghz Athlon which it seems we have had forever (normally upgrade every so often but have been stuck with this about 3 years or more) and was looking to get a spec like quoted above currently at around £150. Do you think we would be able to put our 256mb graphics straight into a machine like this too?
Would just like to comment about how i remember parting with my saved cash many years ago for a second hand (yes not even new) Pentium 90 for the sum of £700  yes £700. If only i had that now to spend on a machine.0 -
Almost certainly it will have IDE for the CD/DVD drive so you could connect the hard drive to that.jaxxy00 wrote:Wow, thanks for the quick reply. As above, it will have at least one IDE for the cd/dvd drive (unless this is advertised as being sata too - unlikely but you can get them), you can then run a 2 plug IDE cable off of it to both your HD and dvd drive. If not, you can always buy a cheap external IDE enclosure - around £15 on ebay and pop the drive in that.
The new computer may come with better graphics card than your current one if it is 3 years old. As to whether you can slot it into your new motherbaord, it depends if it is AGP or PCIe for graphics slot as these are the two systems (as it also depends which your current card is).
https://www.avforum.com is very good for buying cheap 2nd hand graphics cards as people upgrade their systems to the latest specs. I bought 9800pro with arctic cooling last week working perfectly for £37 p&p included, but that was pretty good specs - I've seen older good cards go for £15 - 20. Baring in mind, these were cards selling for £300 a couple of years ago (as oppposed to my old card which is 3 years old and cost me £60 new at the time!).0
