Hello all, just a quick question, having just got my gas and electric statement, we have used £400.21 in gas alone between 11th jan and 27 mar. We live in a 3 bed semi ex authority house. Does this seem right or expensive?

Wow, that seems huge to me. Is there someone at home all day? Do you have many gas appliances? Is it an estimated reading or has your meter actually been read? If it's estimated then go and read it now and ring them with the correct reading, this could be very different to the one they have estimated.MFW 2026 #5007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00

That to me seems about right....for a prepayment meter and the heating set to 21 degrees 24 hours a day 7 days a week. What is the kWh used over that time rather than £££?downnotout wrote: »Hello all, just a quick question, having just got my gas and electric statement, we have used £400.21 in gas alone between 11th jan and 27 mar. It's not pre paid and actual readings 850 metric units used over 77 days gas units converted = 9465.10 kWh used first 565.00 kwh x 8.454p £47.77 next 8900.10 units kwh x 3.960p £352.44
on b gas standard tariff.
If it's about right then I will just have to deal with it, but to me it seems expensive.TOTAL AT START £13606.90 27/03/2018

Very difficult to say without more info.
What does gas do in your house? all the heating or is some heating elec? do you cook with gas? is your hot water gas? your shower water by gas or elec?
How much is the house occupied? how long have you been having the heating on for during those months? 24/7? 2 hours a day?
Was either the inital reading or the end reading an estimate?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Both actual, heating on average 30 hours a week, gas cooker and one bath run daily.TOTAL AT START £13606.90 27/03/2018

Seems expensive to me..I'm in a 2 bed semi (ex council) and mine is expensive at about £280 a quarter over winter, but I'm private renting and have got a really old and non efficiant back boiler..my heating is probably on 4/5 hours a day (which also heats the water). If you find it is correct why not buy other types of heating for winter (we use a calor gas fire) so we don't have to rely on the central heating quite so much, and we pay as we use the gas so we don't get stupid size bills. x£21k of debt left to go and got until 2014 to clear it! :eek:CC: £14,000Loan: £1,100Loan: £6,1000

I used 4300 units over 52 days for roughly the same period.
Just ch, fire and hotwater / shower0 -
whats the insulation like?cavity wall?recently upgraded loft insulation?decent double glazing?0

I don't have gas - but that seems a bit expensive even to me as i'm all electric including night store heating, and my OH is disabled so home all day hence extra heating...and my winter quarter came in at £366
Check insulation, Age/effiiciency of boiler etc perhaps as others have said.0 -
We replaced our boiler this year as the one we had was 30 years old and rated below G, wasting 65% of what it used, no temperature control.
What age is your boiler ~ could be that it's inefficient and using more than you'd expect maybe? :eek:LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T
