ceiling plaster/repair?

Hi,
Our bathroom had polystyrene type tiles covering the bathroom ceiling, which i spent ages scraping off!
I thought maybe it could then just be re-plastered to give a smooth finish, but as there are quite a lot of areas still with some adhesive/imprint of polystyrene i'm not sure?
The adhesive is not thick but i'm left with a very patchy ceiling, not suitable for just painting. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

I had same issue with kitchen and bathroom ceilings, have finally had them both plastered, kitchen needed plasterboard but bathroom was just skimmed, so much better, wish had done it years ago isntead of fooling myself it wasn't noticeable0

I would overboard it it with plasterboard. It's ~£5 a sheet. If you do it well you can just tape and join it rather than skim it which will save you a fair bit.0

I used a hot air gun and scraper to remove the glue came off quite easy and little mess when I had them awful tiles0

Thanks for the ideas, I also have a kitchen ceiling full but thought i'd sort the bathroom ceiling 1st..... - i will try the hot air gun- though its not like blobs here and there, they had covered the whole tiles with adhesive!:eek:0
