Online train ticket order mistake
I've mistakenly ordered an Anytime Day Return instead of an Anytime Open Return. It will cost me a £10 admin fee to change. Is there any other option?
Please can we campaign to get the naming of tickets changed as per:
Day Return, Anytime (from Anytime Day Return)
Open Return, Anytime (from Anytime Open Return)

Who have you ordered your ticket from?I've mistakenly ordered an Anytime Day Return instead of an Anytime Open Return. It will cost me a £10 admin fee to change. Is there any other option?
What is this Anytime Open Return you speak of?Please can we campaign to get the naming of tickets changed as per:

We already have an Anytime Return, which is different from the Anytime Day Return.
Yes, I agree train ticketing can be confusing, but how will rearranging the words help?
The next person will be asking for the word Anytime or Offpeak to be at the front because they wanted to travel during peak hours but bought an off peak ticket.
Sorry, it really isn't possible to please everyone.0 -
Perhaps you can start the ball rolling by writing to all the following, stating your concerns;

Where there is no difference in price, could the default be an Anytime Return (within one month)?0

Sounds reasonable... good idea.Where there is no difference in price, could the default be an Anytime Return (within one month)?
Are you heading towards saying that the ticket you bought was exactly the same price as the one you intended to buy?
Are there any Anytime Returns that are the same price as Anytime Day Returns?0 -
On revisiting redspottedhanky.com, I see that on the Buy Rail Tickets page, under Return Journey, the caption for the check box is Open Return (return anytime). On the next page that shows Train Services, it is only when you click on the Fares Return box that the term Anytime Day Return is displayed in a tooltip and less obviously in a panel below. At the same time Total Cost and the Buy Now box is displayed.
I'm feeling better about not being a complete numpty, but it hurts knowing that I've £10 to pay to get my return ticket.
Anyway, it would be good to think I'm the last wally to make this mistake, if terminology can be more obvious.0 -

Yes because by inserting the word 'Day' into the terminology certainly doesnt let you know its valid for a day does it?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

You can ask for an excess called Change of Fare Type excess at any ticket office. The price you pay is the difference between the two fares.
If your origin does not have a ticket office then you can ask the guard on your train for this excess.
There is no admin fee for an excess. You do not have to refund the ticket and buy a new one, although some staff will carry out this process as it is simpler than issuing an excess, although without charging an admin fee.0 -
No, because some people no longer use the term "Open" to mean "Valid for 1 month", it is now used by some websites to simply mean that it is not tied to a specific train, and can be valid for as little as one day. I blame Thetrainline, as they started that confusion; the rest followed. Please can we campaign to get the naming of tickets changed as per:

The term "Open" is no longer used in ticket types and I think it is best that it does not return.
An excess fare does not attract any admin fee, but you must obtain it at a ticket office (or on board the train, if appropriate) as it cannot be obtained online.0
