I'm loking to replace a flat roof approx 100sq metres. Am looking to replace with either fibre glass or epdm, but not sure which one will be best in the long run. Can anybodygive me any advice. Thanks

I have several roofs with epdm garage, bay window, porch and small extension. Its hard wearing and waterproof and easy to fit. I here fibreglass is good but very expensive. They have lasted a few years now and they should last around 20+ years

I am getting a old garage roof done soon with epdm and upvc trim/guttering its an old store room we use

Plenty of foot traffic go fibreglass. If no one ever goes on the roof then EPDM. Don't DIY get it done properly.

I looked into this recently, as needed to have 40sqm done.

Fibreglass was ridiculously expensive. EPDM roofing was roughly twice the cost of conventional 3-layer felt.

The roofer that offered to do EPDM or felt said that the one thing he disliked about EPDM is that for most of the area you are relying on just one layer of quite soft material. With conventional felt you have 2 or 3 layers, and it's also quite hard.

I went with conventional - the roofer guaranteed it for 10 years and said to expect more like 20+. The original (badly installed) felt roof had lasted over 30 years, but had been patched at least once.
  • A friend of mine had a similar issue and in the end he used a liquid rubber roofing system
  • Funny how Fibreglass is quoted higher than rubber. I still lean towards GRP at the rubber still has glued edges.
GRP has to be done on new board even if the old woodwork is OK. £65 a ntr seems expensive but lif expectancy is nearer 50 yrs and it can be gone over again.

I wouod still go for GRP.
