Cheap Household Appliances

Hi,

I've just purchased a house and need to buy some household appliances - preferably as cheaply as possible.

I need an oven and hob (either free standing or built in) which can't be wider than 60cm but preferrably not any smaller than 55cm wide.

I also need a free standing fridge freezer which is between 55 and 59cm wide. preferably with near equal fridge and freezer space and frost free.

Can anyone recommend any good products or retailers please? I've had a look around comet and currys but was wondering if I might be able to save money by going elsewhere?

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on whether to get for a separate hob and oven or freestanding? It seems like separate is more expensive however I would like gas hob and electric cooker if possible but if not then all gas,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • HI,

Try the clearance section of Comet. (w3 dot clearance-comet dot co dot uk). They sell off shop-soiled items as well as items returned by customers. They might have damaged or no packaging, the odd scratch or dent but are otherwise perfect. All marks are specified so you know what you are getting. I've bought a fridge, a freezer and a free standing cooker from them in the past and have been very pleased with my purchases. :D

    Good luck!

Agree with Denise, I bought a Neff oven from comet clearance. Saved over £100 on prices elsewhere, delivery costs included. Although oven was described as having very light scratches, it was absolutely pristine when it arrived and I couldn't see a scratch anywhere.

Will definitely be trying to buy from them again when I move if they have the appliances I am after.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Bought cheap off Argos (fridge/freezer and washing machine) - FF has been nothing but trouble and not working as I type as awaiting repair/replacement whereas washing machine been 100% reliable. Luck of the draw with cheap stuff really but I think the old adage 'you gets what you pay for' often applies. Separate hob/oven best particularly if you want one gas other electric + unlikely both will go wrong at same time!

Comet or Currys clearances are a good shout, so is asking your local diy store when they are having a kitchen refit. They will sell off ex display appliances for a fraction of the normal price.

For instance all branches of Wickes are having their displays updated over the course of the next two months and will be selling off their ex display appliances.

My son used Lasky's (not 100% but I think it's only available online) He was very pleased with his purchases plus got free delivery.

also check out the prices through search engines like white box deals or prudent panda, often there is extra dicount codes (for comet/applainces direct/currys etc) for buying through these sites. I got an extra 7% off my cooker plus 3% cashback through doing this...

Unfortunately comet clearance never had what I wanted. Pah.
  • I would go up to Currys or Comet, find the models and then take a note of the model number. You can then use this on sites like www dot kitchens-review dot co dot uk to compare prices and to see if there are any discount codes available which will make the purchase cheaper than it would be in the shop. You can save up to 15% using this method.
