Need temp car insurance to tax car... HELP

I have been given a car by my brother (well, correct that.. he dumped it on my drive and told me I could have it to settle a debt).

Its got a fresh MOT and so I advertised it for sale. I havent insured it as its being sold "as seen and untried" but I wanted to get tax on it to help it sell.

Which is the cheapest way to get insured to grab a tax disc ?

One days policy is £28 and I'd rather get atleast 2 weeks incase some body DOES want to test drive (its only a cheapo car).

I don't think you can use short term cover to get a tax disc.

    For example Aviva states:
Can I use Aviva short term insurance to tax my car?
No, although your short term insurance certificate provides evidence of insurance in the format prescribed by Road Traffic Act legislation, the DVLA or UK Post Offices will not accept these certificates for road fund licence purposes.

Under current regulations you either need to SORN it or have the car insured for the full time that you own it.

You must insure it or declare it 'off road' (SORN). The DVLA keep a record of all registered vehicles and any that are not insured automatically incurr a fine and may be impounded and destroyed.

Yes, he already SORN'd it and Ive just checked on DVLA to make sure its still SORN.

I assume he doesnt (or I dont need) to isure it whilst it on my front lawn ?

But that still leaves me needing a tax disc and insurance to allow anyone to test drive it...

Does anyone know of any insurance companies who have a low deposit/cancellation fees ?

Even if it is on your front lawn, it has to be either SORN or taxed and insured.

If you tax it, it will cancel the SORN so will be required to be insured.

He SORN'd it but you now own it so you should SORN it.

Dont they ask the vehicles postcode where its stored when you SORN it? Or am i thinking of something else. If thats the case then its now changed also.

Even if you have it insured doesnt mean potential buyers will be. If its not worth that much, Maybe flog it to a scrapper or someone that will trailer it away.
