Blogging- With or without advert?

Hi Folks,
Need to form a blog for information and interaction purpose of a group of about 100. There are few issues i need to clarify.
1) I am not after advert but if it can be arranged neatly as a banner. Why NOT? Anyone has an idea on this?
2) I have a domain registered with one.com I have contacted them about launching a blog and was told its free but still linked to my registerd domain. The URL will be too long.
3) Is wordpress the best in this area?

You get what you pay for in the hosting areana. How long is your domain name?! I have used One.com and created some basic looking blogs. Beware to note the cancellation period... I got caught out and it cost me fifty quid!0
