Should I be worried?

Options
I didn't know where to post this so I apologise in advance.

I recently checked an email account I use occasionally and found that someone has been ordering pizzas from Dominos in the USA (I'm here in UK) and using my email address. As far as I know nothing dodgy is occurring on my bank statments etc but I was worried as they're using my email? It came up as junk mail anyway so I don't know if the email was even legit.

The latest pizza was about 2 days ago but I've had about 5/6 emails over the course of the past month.

Anything to worry about? I have changed my password etc to be on the safe side.

When you say "has been ordering pizzas", what exactly do you mean?

Are there items in your 'sent' folder that are orders addressed to Dominos? (I know you say it 'came up as junk mail' but just to make sure.)

Or do you just have receipts/order confirmations/bills in the junk mail folder?

If it's the latter it's nothing to worry about as it's almost certainly simple junk mail that is trying to get you to click on a link that will take you somewhere where they will try and induce you to do something detrimental to your computer's health.

Just delete the emails as soon as they appear.

    Hi,

Yes the emails are appearing in my junk folder on hotmail, titled "your order". There are no sent ones.

UNless you have a corresponding charge on your credit/debit card for the pizzas then its either

    a) a mis-spelled email address

    or

    b) spam as suggested by Azari

OK, then absolutely nothing to worry about. They're no different to any other junk mail.

I suspect this is the real reason, a missing number by someone with the same name as you

I get this happening as well, not for Pizza but I get quite a few acknowledgements for orders that have used my email address! I think there is someone in the USA (with the same surname and similar initials to mine) who thinks they own my Gmail address and uses it for ordering stuff, I even get some personal stuff like reminders for dentists appointments and school trips!

Doesnt cause me a problem, I do wonder if the mystery user in the USA ever wonders why they dont receive any emails (as they are all being sent to me)!

I made a random hotmail account a few years ago which i didn't really use. but i used to get notifications from facebook and other websites as though someone else was using that email address ( definitely wasn't spam, i know the difference!) All i can come up with is that someone was miss spelling their address or co.uk / com was getting mixed up.
  • To me this seems like spam emails, and they are probbably geared to let you click on a link. Just ignore them and put them where they belong.

    Trashed.
