Ok, my husband and I are in an IVA and basically my car has died a death and cannot be fixed. I live in rural Wales and need to get to work and there are no buses running through my village. My husband works in the opposite direction and it is 12 miles away so taxi is not an option, neither is push bike as I have to drop kiddies off at nursery and school 3 miles away in the morning. Luckily I'm on maternity at the moment so I need a car before I go back in July. I phoned the IVA up and they said I would be able to get HP providing that I can prove I can afford it and that the HP provider was willing to accept me.
How can you afford it I hear you say? Well my son (age 12) has recently been diagnosed with a disorder I am not prepared to discuss and we have applied for DLA for him. I am expecting to get middle rate for care and lower rate for mobility so would not be able to get a motility car but that will
Not be for at least 4 weeks and thats assuming i dont have to appeal.I've looked into green car scheme but my employer doesn't do anything like that at the moment (nhs).
So does anyone have any suggestions how I can get a car? Car sharing not an option sadly. Anyone know of any companies who could help?
Don't care what car it is, any old heap will do but I have no spare money or savings
Many thanks

Could you ask your IVA company for a payment break to save for a little car?
Any DLA you receive will have to be declared and will be taken into account as income for the IVA but obviously you will also have additional expenses for your son to balance this out.0 -
I am having one payment break yes but we only pay £252 so I don't think I'll get a car or that
they know about dla but if I need it to pay or a car they will accept that they said

From what I understand, any DLA award not allocated for the specific care and support of the child is viewed as available income to be included. It has to go in both the income and expenditure column when you do your annual review.
Also getting DLA is becoming increasingly difficult and many people are being turned down or not getting the award they expected.
As for the car....well, I get mine from auction - both auction houses and eBay! My last car cost me £250 and has been a diamond - little diesel 306, reliable and solid as they come!0
