Broadband speed

I wondered how I can check that the speed of my Broadband I am getting is actually the speed im paying for,I assume there must be a website I can go to try and do this but when I do a google search some you have to pay for and others say things like ping etc etc which I dont understand ,all I want is for something to say 2 meg or 4 meg etc.

    I have been upgraded to 4meg from 2 so wanted to check as the guy at customer services and I didnt seem to understand each other very well.

    Its saying 1958 kbps download speed & 185 kbps upload speed,so do i assume this 1958 is almost 2 meg ?

    Yes, but your upload speed seems a little slow. You need to close all your other web pages before you run the speed test, or else you will get a false reading and try it several times - it varies quite a bit.

    Your sync speed should show on the router or modem speed connection, that should be nearer 4 if you are on 4.

    you may need to disconnect and reconect for your upgrade to take effect (if not allready done so)

    Are you comparing your download speed to sync speed, or wireless download to wired download.

    The speed on the router is the sync speed, the maximum your line is currently capable of. The download speed is your actual download speed at that point in time, between you and the test site.

    The 2 speeds are often very different, because of congestion and overheads.
