Council charging for parking at work

If it was April the first then I wouldnt have believed it !

Nottingham !!!!!! Council have taken it upon themself's to be as bas as the Sheriff of Nottingham was, by installing a new taxation against drivers.
In their infintate wisdom any company with more than 11 spaces which are for use by staff will be initially charged £288 per space which increases over the following years to £381 in 2015, upto 10 spaces and disabled will not be charged.

Its estimated they will rake in some £8 Million pounds from this scheme this year alone.

But the money they will be "raking in" will be used to finance two new tram lines and to improve the main railway station. So better public transport which motorists can use instead of clogging up the roads with cars.

This system has been used in Paris for many years. Hence the very good public transport network in that city.

Declare your disabilities to your employer and ask them to make reasonable adjustments.
I am sure you can find something.
Blue badges are not required for disabled parking in private car parks and generally you can only get one if you dont work

We have been aware of this for almost 3 years so it's not something they have just sprung on people.

Still seems very money-grabbing and as always, there are plenty of people who could not get to their workplace by public transport.

Either due to unsocial hours, a workplace being off the route, disability or something as simple as having to do a school or nursery run first (which I do, and I simply could not start work at 8am if I had to catch a bus/train/tram with the kids first!). And lots of people do a school/nursery run after work...can't be done by public transport unless you only work 3 hours or summat!

Hmmm ..... does that mean if Brighton and Hove brought this in because I work from home that I would have to pay to keep my car on the drive ? Lunatic idea regardless and I thought the Green party in my city had the monopoly on stupid ideas !!!!!!

Let's hope this puts off employers from relocating to Nottingham, or encourages others to move away from the city - then the council may understand.

This doesn't work on so many levels. How does it work for people who aren't at their office every day (should the employer choose to try to make the employees pay)? As stated, what about companies who are located where there aren't any viable alternative ways of getting to work? Even if there are public transport links, that only favours those who live along the routes they serve, without lots of hassle. People haven't, in general, chosen to live where they do based on the public transport routes between home and work. Another mad NuLabour so-called initiative that the coalition didn't seem fit to throw in the bin, like monitoring all our communications (don't let me start on this one, not really on-topic for this forum).

@SodG24: You poor bird/bloke! You live over there in Brighton? I feel for you I really do. I couldn't believe it when the Green looneys decided they wanted to put up council tax instead of taking government money.

For a party that have only just got their first proper position you'd think they'd be smart enough not to knock it wouldn't you!

3 of us regulars are from Brighton! Me, SodG24 and ManxRed. There's lots that is lovely about this City!

And the Greens lost the vote on it so they couldn't put up Council tax!

And now the real PPC comes into its own.

Since this was first announced 3 years ago we have had many meetings with Nottingham's largest employer who at the time was Boots the chemist.

Our solution is simple but i wont delve into it on this public forum as we are the only company offering it.

It doesn't involve any clamping or enforcement of any type. We can provide a method where these bays work out at just £52 per year with a setup fee of £25 (this covers the costs we will incur in setting this up for each site)

Im not sure how much i can give away on here but this is genuinely a legal loophole. If your interested maybe a pm would be within forum rules ?
