Payment to electritian??

Hello,

Ive finally decided on an electritian to carry out the re-wire to our house. He's given us the quote, but id like to ask you all how this is usually paid? Some in advance and then some on completition once im happy? or all at the end? how about the 2nd fitting.. when he comes back to put all the plugs on... would love some advice in this respect. Also the best way to pay? cash or cheque?

Many Thanks

Assuming he is getting the stuff on normal 30 day trade credit account, and he completes the work in that period, he shouldn't need any payment until the job is finished and you have the certificates in your hand.

And you pay by cheque, obviously.

If it's the sort of house where you have chandeliers etc then you'd pay for them as they're obtained as he would probably not have trade account to get those.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

have you actually asked the electrician , he may want some money during the course of the job depending how long it's going to take , if it's only a couple of weeks then pay on completion , if any longer then some part payment would probably be appreciated , whether he is getting stuff on a 30 day account is besides the point , he will still have bills to pay .

Hello :) He will be doing the job in a week and a half and we will be moving out for him.. most of our stuff will be in stoarge. Do you think its ok to give a key so he can come and go as he pleases?

If you trust him to do the electrics "right" so's not to zap you, you should trust him with a key...
If you don't feel you can trust him with a key, you probably shouldn't be trusting him with your electrics...

That's how I'd feel. I quite happily gave my recent rewire team keys. I was also completely (completely!) happy with their work!

I used to do a lot of house bashing, if it was a straight forward house bash then I would ask for payment once job was complete and any snagging was sorted out with the owner if there was any to do.

New builds as they sometimes drag on I normally asked for a part payment for time and materials at the end of first fix, then a second final payment once second fix - snagging and testing was complete.

Personally speaking I used to offer a slight discount for cash :)
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful

Thanks daffy :) i agree.. as ive not done this before thought it best to get advice. Cant wait for all this work to be done
  • I always ask for some money on the first day and the rest on completion. To assume a tradesman has a 30 day trade account and is willing to get into debt buying materials for you is a step to far for me.
